...and become one of 300 idea-generators

If humans were to live on Mars in the future, how would we govern these colonies? Would the laws on Mars be guided by national governments, international law, or would we have to imagine "a brave new law"?

This multi-disciplinary study, spanning the social sciences, law, and creative future studies, aims to give voice to people who are usually not part of the constitution-making process: you and me. By asking them to write parts of "A Constitution for Mars," we hope to find out about people's ideas about political and legal systems, as well as rights and values.

This project collaborates with six different countries: the UK, France, Iceland, the US, Japan, and South Africa. With the help of our research network members, we hope to find a diverse sample of at least 300 participants from different backgrounds. The main research team is based at the University of Galway (Ireland).

Our study has two parts: the first is an online survey, where we collect ideas for the constitution from you, which you can access by clicking the button above. The second part will be a collaborative session with a group of experts in 2025, where we will further work on a draft constitution.
